Each year there are different trends that manifest in the health and wellness scene. What will make the list this year? Below we have rounded up the top ten wellness trends to watch for in 2021!
10 Wellness Trends to Watch in 2021
1. Growth of inflammatory fighting foods
Inflammation is linked to a plethora of health issues so it is no surprise that anti-inflammatory foods are on the rise.
Inflammation related diseases such as stroke, diabetes and arthritis can all be fought and reversed with an inflammation-free diet, making gluten-free, grain-free and dairy-free diets (foods that can cause inflammation) that much more appealing this year.
2. Plant-based protein on the rise
Long gone is the notion that the only way to consume protein is through animal products.
With more and more people turning to more of a plant-based diet in order to reduce inflammation in the body and improve their overall health, protein from sources such as peas and hemp is on the rise.
In fact, according to research, plant-based proteins are growing 2.5 times faster than whey proteins with the probability of outgrowing whey protein on the shelves very soon.
3. Collagen is the new “it” food
Most people assume that collagen is only in facial creams, but collagen supplements are becoming increasingly popular – and for good reason.
Collagen is the fibrous proteins that act as building blocks for hair, skin, bones, teeth, cartilage and tendons. It is essential in the healing and repairing of bones and cartilages while also helps to maintain elasticity and mobility of joints.
While the body does make collagen it becomes less efficient at doing so around the age of 25, which is where supplementation comes in.
From pill supplements to drinks and powders, collagen is on the rise in more and more consumer products.
4. Beauty products are becoming greener
Foods aren’t the only consumer product getting a make over this year. Beauty product labels are being scrutinized as carefully as food labels now, with more and more women turning to more green and all-natural skin care products. The organic and all-natural brands of makeup are expected to reach $16 billion by the end of the next year, proof that cleaner makeup and beauty products is a growing trend.
5. Resurgence in post-workout recovery
High intensity workouts are still at the top of the list in workouts this year, however as effective as this method of training is it can also lead to injuries and over training when recovery is not done properly. This year expect to see more of a balance in terms of fitness routines, with more people turning to foam rolling, recovery classes and other self-care products.
6. Everyone’s drinking matcha
Matcha is popping up everywhere now and not just in it’s traditional tea form.
From homemade matcha ice cream to a variety of matcha latte’s and smoothies, matcha powder has grown exponentially in popularity.
What makes matcha powder different from green tea bags? The ways its made.
Traditional green tea is used by steeping the leaves into water while matcha tea is a powder made from the ground leaves themselves, which is then added to water or milk to consume.
This means you are receiving more of the benefits of the matcha green tea leaves, including more antioxidants, caffeine and cancer-fighting polyphenols.
7. Acroyoga
Acroyoga is the newest celebrity workout, which means that it is bound to go mainstream with gym goers this year. This type of exercise combines both yoga and gymnastics and is performed with a partner, one as a “base” and one as the “flyer”.
Acroyoga requires not just communication between partners but also a lot of core, leg and arm strength to lift as the base and to support oneself as the flyer.
8. Meditation Apps
Meditation helps to reduce stress as well as aids in relaxation, which can be a vital part of ones’ health and well-being. Not everyone understands the concept of meditation however, which is where meditation apps come in.
These apps provide short guided meditations that can be done by anyone, any where with the goal of scheduling weekly or daily meditations.
9. Wellness Retreats
We aren’t talking about your mother’s yoga retreat – these new and improved wellness retreats are more along the lines of an extravagent vacation with mind, body and spiritual health all at the forefront.
Most of these retreats provide a full healthy eating plan, custom workouts, beauty treatments and even massage.
10. Cannabis commercial growth
More and more retail brands are beginning to sell legally pot-infused products such as foods, beauty products and other goods.
These products contain a legal amount of cannabis that is derived from non-psychoactive extracts from the plant.
More and more research is showing the potential benefits of cannabis such as the ability to reduce anxiety, lower inflammation in the body, aid in relaxation for the body and mind as well as lift overall mood.
With these benefits and more and more states legalizing marijuana, the growth of cannabis in health and wellness is sure to expand.
